The Horrifying Tales of Doc Hops

Thursday, June 30, 2:41PM:

Upon entering my residence I notice immediately the sudden weighing down of my body. There is an acrid energy about and it fills my heart with dread. Being the brave one I continue on to search for what could be causing this upset in the natural order of things.

I walk towards the bedroom, but stop immediately at the sound of quiet sobbing to my direct right. I glance slowly and notice it is coming from the office, and turn to investigate. By now the lump in my throat is enormous but I press on in the name of science.

The door was recently oiled and opened smoothly to reveal at my feet a strange moss where carpet should have been. The smell of fresh hops invades my senses and I am drawn in to this fantastic place. A few steps further reveals to my eyes that the office has been transformed through some fantastic magic into a world of beer!

Giddy as a school girl I run in and start gathering bottles of beer from the beer bushes and chugging them down one by one. The taste is like ambrosia to the gods. With a single blink, everything is dark. I stumble around for what seems hours in search of the exit to this now increasingly frightening environment. An aroma of decaying plant material and stale Busch enter my senses and I begin running.

A spotlight ahead far in the distance draws my attention so I begin towards it. Alone in the center of this spotlight is a refrigerator. On the front, a single note exists.

The note says in such simple writing, "Don't forget the beer". I had forgotten to buy beer at the grocery!

I wake up in a cold sweat, realizing that it was all just a horrible nightmare. I stand slowly and walk to the kitchen to grab a cold refreshing brew. Opening the fridge, I grab a single can of delicious beer and open it...

It is warm!

I wake up again, in an even sweatier state than before.

The end.

Hammer and Sickle Cigars

Hammer and Sickle cigars are about as strong as the Soviet Union, they are mild to medium but have amazing flavor! They are not your typical mild smokes that taste like burning leaves and ash... they have character!

The Hammer and Sickle Robusto was a trip however, which i would call mild and other sites would consider medium, with a great spice to it! A serious flavor journey and a great (at least) two inch ash that proved the cigar to be well made.

The Berlin Wall however, which had a copper band that was pretty sweet... was even more mild to medium I would dare to say, and still flavorful but not quite as spicy. Smooth flavor and consistent the whole way through. Sweet flavors throughout.

Thanks you... NH cigars for the... fantastic image.

If you desire flavor but not heaviness, try the robusto. If you are looking for a mild to medium check out the Berlin Wall.

The cigars come in crystal and granite boxes. Super nice looking and a great gift if you can talk your local cigar shop into getting the box too.

Kvass

Another post so soon after the previous! Well I'll be... Myrtle, did ya ever expect another post so quickly? Myrtle? Put yer got damned hearin' aid in woman!

Now on to other news. The Russian Kvass we failed so miserably at on the first go around was a success this time. I would not go as far to strive to say it was a huge success... in fact success is probably making it sound better than it really is.

We "succeeded" in making a Kvass; however, our plan to make something so amazingly brain-splattering that you couldn't only drink one was a bit of a failure.
There were strong notes of yeast, yeast, bread, yeast, and some funky shit. At least we proved we were not total good-for-nothings. We made the damn beer, and that's that. The end. Show's over. Time to make some grown-up brews now.

Tasting Overwhelming

Some serious tasting went down on the 12th of June, 2011. Was given the chance to dive nose first into a few glasses of Macallan Single Oak. Definitely love Scotch, and may just have to start including my endeavors with the Whisky world into this blog. We will see...

Along with this scrumptious Single Malt however, went some fine smokes. The Graycliff Profesionale was definitely on the Medium side, with Indonesian wrapper. Had a big finish on it, with some earthy notes and almost almond-like flavors.

Following this beauty was the Graycliff Espresso, which was heavier for sure... but I would not quite go to say it was a full-bodied cigar (it was more on the medium side). Strong coffee (duh) and chocolate notes, with the same spicy finish I find I really enjoy in these Graycliffs. This one ranks up next to one of my favorite, the Graycliff Turbo.

A great day that ended with a great feast. Good food, good drinks, welcoming hosts and a plethora of interesting conversations.

The quest for the most brutal beer

Just for fun I am on the search for what I believe to be the most metal beer.

So far I have come across:

Fade to Black by Left Hand

Bombadier Satanic Mills by Charles Wells

Avery Samael

Of course there are far more that have demons and dark creatures on them, but nothing seems darker than the absence thereof.

Gnomegang Review and Hot Sauce

Today I came across something I bought only because I only saw six. Gnomegang from Ommegang and La Chouffe breweries. A great beer. Belgian Blonde with serious fruit notes and banana aftertastes. The whole bottle absolutely demolished my mind for a few hours.. then I got really sleepy and read a little.. now I am here when i should be sleeping.

Other than this exciting chain of events... today I consumed one of the hottest host sauces I have ever had. I have been adding ghost pepper hot sauce (at about 1,000,000 scoville units) to my soups because just a couple drops adds a great flavor and heat.

The small extremely potent shit I had today, however, was 1.5 million on the scoville scale. It was an extract of habanero, which somehow beats the ghost pepper. I will admit this; the ghost pepper sauce is an instant and fast residing pain, while this crap was a slow acting, esophagus charring, lip chapping potion from the farthest reaches of hell. I really can say it was one of the hotter things I have eaten. My good ol' pal Doryan decided to rub his eyes with it to make things interesting, and that it sure did. I was so jealous of his extreme pain and wanted in on this... but changed my mind at the last second!

Only one thing could have made this better. Cold beers for the whole group of we the fools who ventured into the world of Da Bomb.

Wing eating contest

Just the other day, I was coaxed into something most would consider idiotic (but which I can only consider epic).

My friend Jason invited me to an all you can eat hot wing eating competition between he and I. The high score of the location was 80 wings. I had planned on the number 100... but despite my efforts only managed 81.

Jason outdid me by only a mere 21 wings... pfft! It will soon be rematch time!!!!

So with enough stomach stretching and starving myself simultaneously as possible... I will defeat this mighty foe!

Copious amounts of Beer will follow.
